Your success is our success
1] Culture is the key
The other day, you asked about Culture. Suresh talked of company culture then.
You should also understand National cultures. It’s helpful in outsourcing or negotiation. e.g., Japanese team may discuss with you for the whole day; yet, they decide only next day. They will talk to HQ overnight (time zone) and only after that they convey their decision.
Whereas, Americans believe in “Take it or Leave it” and can make quick decision. Europeans will sign agreement, and come forward for few amendments.
Knowing such differences is valuable in business.
2] Succession
You wanted to retire early. You came to me; and, told me you have found a successor. Is it that easy to handover?
Suresh then worked with you on step-by-step succession plan. He also showed you the challenges in implementing the plan. Key to successful succession in not in the successor, it’s within you. He then elaborated how to prepare yourself.
Human ego plays critical role in succession. What will happen to me, I will be sidetracked, etc.
Suresh then skilfully showed you how to overcome such hurdles in succession.
3] Delegation
John came frustrated and told he want to leave. Suresh offered him a drink and both then talked for two hours.
John was overworked. He was never sure that assistants will do the job properly. So most of the time, either he will do it himself, or he will rework on others.
Suresh showed John how to delegate. He emphasized on effective delegation – giving proper directions, authority, and resources if John required.
4] Cindy was complaining
Who listens?
She talks amongst friends-do they listen?
Family – do they listen?
At AGMs – who listens?
At meetings – who listens?…
Mind you, Hearing is Not Listening.
Your Talk must deliver a message, a statement, a fact.
Content is important. Mind you, Hearing is Not Listening.

Furthermore, he cautioned her that hearing is not listening. Sharing an example that in a meet or a class, participants nod heads saying, Okay, Okay. That means they are listening; not that they have understood or agreed.
Either you contents should be meaningful, or relevant to the audience.
5] Get to the Point Fast Enough
At a business meet, Patrick talked endlessly. Meandering your way through business communications is no way to get ahead.
Patrick was highly frustrated. He always have to add ‘’one more thing ….’’ after you have finished talking?…
At the break, Suresh talked to Patrick and showed how to get to the point fast. Cannot beat around the bush.
Suresh explained that when you are in the market for funding, the lenders give you limited time to present salient points of your company performance, plan, and need for funding. You make it or break it.
Building pathways to bring your business from where you are, to where you desired to be.
